Brazil eVisa requirements, eligibility and travel information
Review the passport, document, validity, stay and entry conditions before applying.
What is the Brazil eVisa?
The Brazil eVisa is an electronic visa delivered as a PDF for eligible foreign travellers. Every traveller, including each child, needs an individual visa. Applications for family members may be prepared together, but each traveller is assessed individually.
Who can apply?
The standard electronic route is available to eligible passport holders from Australia, Canada and the United States. The passport entered in the application must be the passport used for travel. A dual national should apply with the nationality and passport they will present for the journey. Brazilian citizens cannot use this visa route.
Special routes for Chinese passport holders
Chinese passport holders may use the relevant electronic route when travelling as seafarers for continuous maritime activities aboard a foreign-flagged vessel or platform in Brazilian jurisdictional waters, or when participating in eligible events, exhibitions and trade fairs under the business category. The events route does not permit paid activities in Brazil.
Permitted travel purposes
Tourism can include leisure travel, cultural visits and visits to family or friends. Eligible business travel can include meetings, conferences and trade events. The visitor route does not authorise local employment, salaried work or technical assistance in Brazil.
Validity and multiple entry
The electronic visa may permit multiple entries. The validity period can be five or ten years depending on nationality and the issued visa. Visa validity and permitted length of stay are separate: always follow the dates and conditions printed on the issued document.
Permitted stay
A visit is generally limited to a maximum of 90 days in a year, subject to the conditions on the issued visa and the decision made at the border. The Chinese events route is also limited to a maximum stay of 90 days. Do not treat the maximum as a guaranteed admission period.
Passport requirements
For the standard route, the travel passport should remain valid for at least one month after arrival. Provide a clear colour image of the complete biodata page. Appropriate diplomatic or special passports may also use the relevant entry route. Chinese passports should be signed and have at least two blank pages; eligible seafarers should also prepare copies of pages containing stamps or visas.
Passport replaced, expired or lost
A valid eVisa linked to an expired passport may be used only by travelling with both the old passport and the new passport, subject to the applicable conditions. If the old passport was lost, prepare a copy of its biodata page, the police report or certificate, the new passport and the valid eVisa. The visa is not transferable to another person.
Photograph requirements
Prepare a recent colour JPG or JPEG photograph on a white background, approximately 3.5 × 4.5 cm or 413 × 531 px. Face the camera directly with the face centred, shoulders and ears visible, no glasses or head covering and no smile. Do not crop the photograph from the passport. These are preparation recommendations; our form lets you continue if the image needs correction.
Passport image requirements
Use a colour JPG or JPEG image of the complete passport biodata page, normally no larger than 2 MB. All corners and the machine-readable zone should be visible. Avoid blur, cropped edges, fingers, glare, tilting and scanner watermarks. Our form uses soft validation, but an unclear document may have to be replaced before processing.
Supporting documents
Travel reservations, recent financial evidence and accommodation information may be useful depending on the case, but are not universal uploads in this form. Authorities may request additional evidence. Business travellers may provide a business or employer letter describing the intended activities.
Documents for Chinese seafarers
Prepare the photograph and passport image, a seafarer identity document or seafarer passport, relevant stamped or visa-containing passport pages and a company dispatch letter. A traveller arriving by air should also prepare a round-trip itinerary in English or Portuguese showing the traveller name, flight information and dates.
Documents for Chinese events and exhibitions
Prepare the photograph and passport image, an invitation from the Brazilian company or event organiser and evidence of the planned method of entry. Academic or artistic participants should prepare evidence of financial means. Depending on the case, a dispatch letter, relevant passport pages, identification for the person signing the invitation and proof of exhibitor participation may also be requested.
Entry by air, land or sea
Eligible travellers may enter by air, land or sea, subject to the conditions on the issued visa and border admission. This page does not claim that every port or crossing is available for every itinerary. Confirm your route before travel.
Application timing and processing
Processing may take up to 10 business days after a complete, verified application has been submitted, but no decision time or approval is guaranteed. Standard applicants should consider applying around two months before travel. Travellers using a special China route should apply at least one month before travel. Avoid non-refundable arrangements until the visa is issued.
After the eVisa is issued
Check every personal, passport and travel detail. Carry the same passport used in the application and a printed copy of the PDF eVisa for travel and boarding. Issuance of a visa does not guarantee admission; the final entry decision is made by the competent border authorities.
Requirements for applicants under 18
A minor needs an individual application. Prepare the birth certificate, a current notarised parental authorisation bearing the appropriate signatures and notary stamp, and colour copies of the parents’ passport biodata and signature pages. Depending on the family situation, evidence may also include a sole-custody order, divorce, death or adoption document, death certificate, legal name-change order or a statement relevant to a Brazilian parent.
Incomplete or incorrect applications
The authorities may request further information or documents. If requested material is not provided within the stated period, which may be 15 days, the application may not be processed and a new application may be needed. Incorrect or incomplete details can delay processing or result in refusal. A refused applicant may be able to apply again after 24 hours using the same email address.
Important restrictions
The visa must match the traveller and passport. Each family or group member needs an individual visa. A traveller who already holds an appropriate valid physical visa may not need an eVisa. Business travel cannot be used for local employment, salaried work or technical assistance, and the Chinese events route does not permit paid activities.
Before you travel
Recheck the correspondence on the issued eVisa, understand the difference between visa validity and permitted stay, and carry the required passport and printed visa. Keep copies of important documents. If a PDF is lost, it can generally be printed again from the saved electronic copy. Border admission remains subject to the authorities.
